Dowco Computer Systems

A dynamic and innovative company, Dowco Computer Systems was formed in 1987 as a subsidiary of Dowco Consultants Ltd. Founded by Hugh Dobbie (Jr), Dowco Computers evolved initially to service architects, engineers and small businesses. The company incorporated in 1994 and soon developed an expertise in computer technology that focused on integrating graphics with corporate-wide information servers. Included among the Company's clients were major food organizations, the Department of Defense, secondary and post secondary institutions, design companies and large process oriented client/server environments. Dowco also sold network management softwares for distributed computing environments.

In 1995, Dowco commenced with the addition of Internet connectivity and hosting to its professional service offerings. Today, the Company is one of the largest privately owned Internet Service Providers (ISP) in Western Canada, with a subscriber base of over 5000 accounts and dial points of presence in Abbotsford, Langley and Chilliwack, BC. Highspeed DSL offerings are available throughout BC and Alberta. The Internet business is known as dowco.com Internet.

The Company maintains divisions skilled in database and web design as well as a hardware sales division that specializes in custom computer and LAN configurations.

The Company is a privately held company with head offices in Burnaby, BC. After 14 years at the helm, Hugh Dobbie Jr was succeeded by his father, Hugh Dobbie Sr, as company President in 2001. The Company is a equity partner in one of Canada's leading streaming media companies, INSINC.

In 2002, Hugh Sr was awarded Business Person of the Year Award, the Burnaby Board of Trade and the City of Burnaby . During the same year Dowco Consultants was a finalist in numerous categories, including; Company of the Year; Newsmaker of the Year; and Innovator of the Year.
